D ane Garth is a mental health unit situated on the site of Furness General Hospital in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria

The Ramsey Inpatient Unit supports people living with dementia, who require longer term specialised care.

The Unit has a circular pathway that enables patients to walk, but prior to Find working with the Trust, there were no orientation aids or places of interest to create opportunities for interaction and engagement.

Following the refurbishment, patients now have choices of spaces that include the very popular bus stop, the post office, a bar, flower shop, a seaside area and a quiet lounge with a feature wall of lavender fields. The dining area has received a new look that makes it easy to identify the purpose of the area.

Light enabling window vinyl fitted for privacy. Carefully designed to fit the environment and not to block out the light.

Door decals fitted to deter residents entering the wrong room.

Small spaces created along the corridor with flower shops and market barrows. This created places of interest for residents to stop and give them a purpose for their walk.

Door Cals added to the doors helped with orientation, to support the street scene appearance.

The new look dining area brightens up the existing wall and creates a focal point to encourage eating and drinking

An unused seating area became an instant success as a bus stop. Making a perfect place for residents to stop and rest.

Last, but not least, we transformed a day room into a wonderful pub with a full size bar.
