Anchor’s Palmersdene Care Home creates a dementia environment for their residents in Jarrow.
The importance of creating a dementia environmentAt Palmersdene, the environment plays an important role in enhancing the quality of life for their dementia residents . Having recently introduced several themed areas (flower shop, bus stops, ice cream parlour and seaside area) the residents certainly have a welcoming and engaging environment in which to keep active and enjoy.
Bringing the outside in dementia environments made easy …
One of the first changes Find made was to install dementia friendly light enabling vinyl for privacy.
A trip to the Ice Cream Parlour and Flower Shop
Utilising Finds mural design, destination points have been created, The ice cream parlour has given residents a nice area to sit and the flower shop and accessories allow residents to pick up flowers as they walk along the corridor giving them a sense of purpose for their walk.
Since introducing the new areas we have had some lovely feedback from Liz Turner, Home Administrator, “The Find Murals have certainly enhanced our environment. All of our customers, families and staff are enjoying them they have been a great addition to our home. Your workmanship and service was excellent and we would have no problem recommending you to other homes”
Rob Windsor-Hey Find’s Care Home Environmental Specialist commented,
“ We have enjoyed working with the team at Plamersdene. For a person living with dementia keeping active in the things they enjoy is extremely important. Find has helped introduce murals that aid activity and interaction.”
