Description
The Post Office has an instantly recognisable red and green exterior with a sign and Pillar Box outside. In recently years, each City, Town and Village had a Post Office.
Before email and social media, everyone used a Pox Box to send a letters card or post a cheque.
How to introduce the Post Office theme into your care facility
- Installing a Pillar Box or a Post Office area in a dementia care setting can be a benefit and provide a destination point. For instance in the morning, completing a task can be a comforting experience and bring contentment for the day.
- Encourage residents to write a letter or a postcard and help them take it to the Pillar Box
- Encourage residents to empty the Pillar Box and deliver the mail within the Care Home.
- Layout stamps and envelopes for residents to use
- Help residents know the time of year by making Christmas, Valentine, Easter, Halloween, and Birthday cards that can then be taken to the Post Office to be posted
